As if we didn’t all know this already, the Philadelphia Eagles are the only team in the NFC East that you can trust. Professional sports teams are named for the city where they play. City first, nickname second. Sports teams should honor the fan that they represent. The fans whose taxes pay for their stadiums. The fans who make their very existences possible. The Philadelphia Eagles were born here, and they respect the relationship they have with their Philadelphia fans.
But they other NFC East teams simply don’t have as much class. Their billionaire owners don’t care about the fans or they city they claim to represent. Of course everyone knows that the “New York” Giants play in East Rutherford, NJ, about 5 miles from Manhattan. NYC has been feeding off of New Jersey for decades (refer to the Statue of Liberty). But how about the other teams? Believe it or not, their fraud-levels are even more despicable.
The “Washington” Redskins left their city for Landover, MD (about 10 miles away) in 1997. Sixty years after coming to the city. But did they rebrand to the Landover Redskins? Or the Maryland Redskins? Now I realize that asking this particular franchise to change their name is asking a lot, but can they at least own up to their fraud? Maybe go with the “Washington” Redskins of Maryland, or the “Washington” Redskins off I-495. Whatever they are, they sure as hell aren’t in the capital city.
Last and most certainly least, of course, are the “Dallas” Cowboys. These clowns have been gradually climbing the ladder of fraud since leaving Dallas in 1971. They spent 37 years in Irving, TX, and since 2009 they’ve been in Arlington. In Arlington, 17 miles away, in a stadium owned by the City of Arlington, and partially funded by tax hikes in the city of Arlington. The “Dallas” Cowboys, are, once again, the shining example of classlessness in American professional sports.
