When the news that the PIAA was going to cancel/postpone fall sports dropped the backlash was quick and swift. So much so that the state organization promptly changed course and had this to tweet:

Prior to that moment the sub-committees had never met about Covid-19 safety plans and the next meeting was to wait until August 15. Many leaks around the state, including my blog post here put out the story that the PIAA was to cancel sports till January 1st. My sources still stick by their statements but July 15 all this changed and so with it the next meeting date changed to July 29 and the PIAA started taking action. Well sort of.

The sub committees have all passed the responsibility of Covid-19 safety plans to every school district and didn’t really set any guidelines themselves. Football was told not to meet in locker rooms rather endzones. The PIAA has no Covid testing plans or plans of action if members of a team test positive. As the MLB just learned this is a very slippery and dangerous slope and instead of grown men we are talking about children.

Then again as the title of this blog piece suggests the PIAA pushed the decision on those above their pay grade. In it’s article/interview with Chris Harlan of the Tribune Review:

“…Unless Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration says otherwise”

Dr. Levine what do you have to say?

“We’re going to be looking at all of those different pieces of data, not only in terms of return to school, but also in terms of sports,” Levine said. “All of that is being considered. We want to make sure that we have the best data before those decisions are made.”

No decision made? Seems to me this all rides with Dr. Levine and the PIAA knows it. They’ve pitched their blame and backlash to a #ScapeGoat
