The College Football Playoff Selection Committee released there first rankings of the 2015 season last night.  Let the controversy begin.  If the season were to end today, here is how the College Football Playoff would look:

(1) Clemson 8-0 (5-0 ACC Atlantic)

v.

(4) Alabama 7-1 (4-1 SEC West)

(2) LSU 7-0 (4-0 SEC West)

v.

(3) Ohio State 8-0 (4-0 Big 10 East)

I don’t think many were surprised in regards to Clemson, LSU, or Ohio State but Alabama?  Sure the Tide can make me a believer with a victory over LSU Saturday in Tuscaloosa, but as of now, this is the same team who lost to now a two-loss Ole Miss team at home in the friendly confines of Bryant-Denny Stadium.  And what about those two undefeated teams in Texas – Baylor & TCU.  The Big 12 continues to get no love, albeit due to weak nonconference schedules.  Luckily, November will see Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma, & Oklahoma State all squaring off against one another.  If one of those teams, and almost certainly if its Baylor or TCU can run the table, the Big 12 should be at the table come playoff time.  And what about Notre Dame.  Sure losing on the road at the “other” Death Valley is nothing to be ashamed of, but Temple gave this team all they could handle.  I’m not so sure Baylor and TCU would have needed a late 4th quarter touchdown to put the Owls away.  Remember the last time Notre Dame played for a national championship.  I sure do and I remember how the game was pretty much decided following the opening kickoff.  Luckily for the Baylors and TCUs of the world, December 6th is the day the rankings matter, so these next five weeks figure to be an exciting time in the College Football world.  Hopefully Jeff Long and the rest of the committee get it right, because wasn’t this why we abolished the BCS system.  Because we wanted to make sure the right teams played for the right to be top dog in FBS football. Here is how I would have voted yesterday:

(1) Ohio State (they won it all last year and keep winning, despite the shotty QB play)

v.

(4) Clemson (I was happy Clemson was voted number 1, just didnt think anyone had the balls to do it)

(2) LSU (in my mind the best team in the country

v.

(3) Baylor (I dont care who there playing, that offense deserves a shot against a top-flight defense, like the Bayou Bengals)

Anyways here is the complete Week 1 CFP Rankings…See you next week!
