First lesson I ever remember learning from my dad is “Life is not fair”. He said it in reference to my tears. My tears drawn because I thought I had earned a reward that was given to another child. A child whose father just so happened to be the assistant coach. Football is that way. A coach can without any given reason choose one kid over another. It’s objective. Basketball and baseball are the same. I was an assistant coach on a youth baseball team three years ago and the only reason one kid made it over another was because the two other coaches wanted to have sex with his mom. Youth sports are littered with these assholes. That’s why I love wrestling.

Wrestling gives everyone the same fair shake. Want to know who should start on the wrestling team? It’s as easy as having them shake hands and compete their hardest for that spot. Wrestling is a gritty sport where everything is earned. Not only is it fair but it teaches my dad’s second favorite life lesson: “The guy who works the hardest will reap the most rewards.” No truer than in the sport of wrestling. No one else can let you down. Your coach can’t call bad plays, your teammate doesn’t have to hand you a ball and it is right there in the open for everyone to see what is actually going on during that match. So if you worked harder atwrestling  and your body than your opponent, the match should be no problem. There is skill that needs to be learned and some kids are more natural at it than others but eventually at the high school level that all levels out. Have your children wrestle. It will make them self confident, keep them in shape for other sports, theyll learn leverage & balance and it will teach them life lessons that others sports may not adequately teach. Remember: A wrestler can become anything but not everybody can become a wrestler.
